Cambridge, UK, April 11, 2024 – The Rt Hon Lucy Frazer KC, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, and MP for South East Cambridgeshire, last week visited the Cambridge headquarters of ieso, the venture-backed innovative healthcare company developing AI-driven evidence-based mental health solutions, and which has been in partnership with the NHS for over a decade.

Ms Frazer met with ieso’s senior leaders, scientists and clinicians to learn about the company and its growth to date, the successful NHS partnership it has formed, it’s commitment to a responsible approach to innovation, and its investment ambitions for the future as it enters the US market. The meeting was organised by the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (BVCA).

“ieso is committed to responsibly innovating within the field of digital mental health to help make mental treatment more accessible and effective for those who need it. We were pleased to welcome Ms Frazer to our headquarters to learn about our success so far, and how the backing of our investors has helped us to achieve this.” said Michael Black, Chief Financial Officer, ieso Digital Health.

“It was a pleasure to visit ieso in my constituency, who specialise in delivering online cognitive behavioural therapy. ieso’s tools have the potential to transform the efficiency and quality of healthcare for many of my constituents and beyond.

I am proud that South East Cambridgeshire is such a ripe investment environment, particularly for innovative companies, and this venture capital investment by BVCA members into ieso is yet another success story" said Ms Frazer.

Chief Executive of the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association, Michael Moore, added:

“We were delighted to arrange for the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport to visit ieso Digital Health and demonstrate the real impact that private capital has in small and innovative businesses up and down the country. In 2022, 27.5bn was invested by private capital into UK businesses in sectors across the UK economy, ranging from consumer products to emerging technology.  There are over 12,000 UK companies backed by private capital which currently employ over 2.2 million people in the UK.  A majority of the businesses backed are outside London and 90% of the businesses receiving investment are small and medium-sized businesses”.

About The Rt Hon Lucy Frazer KC MP

A former barrister, Lucy was elected for the seat of South East Cambridgeshire in 2015. Since then, she has held a number of Ministerial roles, including Solicitor General, Minister for Prisons, Financial Secretary to the Treasury and Minister for Housing. In February 2023 she became Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, joining the Cabinet.

Lucy has a particular interest in securing the UK’s status as a player on the world stage, alluding to this twice in her maiden speech to Parliament in 2015. She noted the economic success of business in her constituency within “international markets” and said “a small but great Britain has played a disproportionate role in world affairs for centuries. A strong Britain should continue to play a key role in our international affairs”.

Lucy was a supporter of Theresa May’s leadership campaign after the resignation of David Cameron following the referendum on EU membership. She backed Boris Johnson’s leadership campaign in the 2019 Conservative leadership contest, and Rishi Sunak in 2022 .
